IG & HY CDS Summary

Japan’s 5-year CDS spread displayed a high volatility last month, with the Japanese Yen tumbling to a seven year low as the Bank of Japan continued to ease monetary policy belligerently, diverging further from the Federal Reserve’s hawkish stance.

A rather dramatic spike in the Retail CDS spread was observed, with many western brands pullingout of Russia. Citing reasons like reputational damage, public support for Ukraine, logistical challenges, and licensing complexities with the new sanctions in place, retail brands immediately followed suit in restricting their sales in Russia, which was once an important market for their products and a crucial source of growth for the sector. At stake for giants like McDonalds, Nike and Apple (to name a few) is billions in lost sales.
